Have you become increasingly wary about what others see about you on social networks or what they post about you? If so, it seems you aren’t alone as Computerworld reports:

Facebook users are becoming decidedly unfriendly, according to a Pew Internet & American Life Project study released Friday.

Here are just a few bits of information from the Pew telephone poll, which surveyed 2,777 American adults:

  • 63% of social network users have deleted friends
  • 44% have deleted comments that friends made on their profiles
  • 37% have taken their names off photos that had been tagged to identify them
  • 67% of women have deleted people from their network, while 58% of men have done the same
  • 67% of women say they set their social networking privacy controls at the highest setting, while 48% of men said the same

As indicated above, a significant proportion of those surveyed are in the habit of keeping their lives on social networks private, which often includes moderating their posts and managing which friends they stay connected with. Do you think these survey results are true? Do you find yourself monitoring your social media presence more closely and moderating the content you share/others share about you?
