It has been crazy, weird, and glorious: YouTube just celebrated its 10th birthday!

In honor of the 10 years of video glory, here are some of YouTube’s videos over the years that have both impacted our lives, and made us beg people to just stop playing them.

1. Me at the Zoo

“Me at the Zoo” was the first video uploaded to YouTube on April 23, 2005, around 8:27pm. While the 19 second clip is considered to be “poor quality,” no one could have guessed how the site would grow, nor how significant those 19 seconds would become.

2. Evolution of Dance (2006)

Stand up comedian Judson Laipply’s dance routine was THE most popular video on the site for ages. His orange “Crush” t-shirt and nerdy, tucked in jeans became a signature look, and his dance moves made us realize just how far we have (not?) come.

3. Here it Goes Again (2006)

Ok Go’s treadmill routine for their single “Here it Goes Again” catapulted both their fame and YouTube’s in 2006. The video was probably far more successful at getting people to use their gym’s treadmill than any other video in history. By the way, don’t try this at home.

4. Charlie Bit my Finger —AGAIN! (2007)

While “Charlie” didn’t immediately go viral when it was uploaded in 2007, over the course of the next two years it grew to take the top spot from Evolution of Dance. The 55 second clip is a testimony to the power of cuteness.

5. Never Gonna Give You Up (2008ish)

No one escaped the epidemic of Rickrolling. While technically the video was made in the ancient era of the 80s (yeah, ancient) and the first recorded case of Rickrolling was in 2007, the Rickrolling was in its prime during 2008, as many of us remember. Ah, Rick Astley, we are never gonna give you up, but neither will we trust urls the same way again.

6. David After the Dentist (2009)

If you ever take your kid for a tooth removal surgery, and the nurses all come out laughing, you should really break out your camera. That is what inspired David DeVore to film his then seven year-old son, David, as they were heading home while little David was still out of it from the medical drugs. Once again, the innocent cuteness captured the world’s hearts, and everyone witnessed little David pondering life’s difficult questions, such as, “Is this normal?”

7. Bed Intruder Song!!! (2010)

Antoine Dodson became a star when he unknowingly wrote the lyrics to the Bed Intruder Song during a TV interview. This video helped popularize auto-tuning for non-intended song inspirations, as well as issued the warning for everyone to “Hide yo kids, hide yo wives.”

8. Jack Sparrow (2011)

While this was the year that Friday reigned supreme, no one actually liked it, which is why the video was removed after receiving over 3.1 million dislikes. While we acknowledge that Friday was a big deal, we would rather watch Lonely Island’s “Jack Sparrow” video. (Warning: Language-but it is still better than Friday.)

9. Gangnam Style by PSY (2012)

There is nothing to say about this video that has not already been said. Besides taking the world by storm in 2012, Psy’s video went on to break YouTube’s view counter this year. This did lead us to wonder who was still watching this video, and if they are actually sane. Regardless, no one can deny that old Psy has some major swag.

10. What Does the Fox Say (2013)

To be fair, 2013 was a bumper crop of viral videos. People were prancing, doing the harlem shake, and (unfortunately) twerking. There were also hair curling fails, NFL bad lip reading, and KAPOOYA. But we have to tip our hats to Ylvis for their viral video which made us care about foxes. Possibly, the fox says nothing because he is too traumatized by twerking.

11. Turn Down for 2014

Since there was such a broad spectrum of videos to go viral in 2014, we thought it was best to let YouTube’s own rewind tell us what we watched:

Seeing as how we have already had challenges to pour ice-water on our heads, crazy Korean pop stars, and songs about bed intruders, we can only imagine what 2015 will bring.
