Sometimes it’s good to step away from the endless barrage of productive recommendations, and indulge in a little preventative advice.  You may be so busy focusing on what you should do, that you completely gloss over the things you definitely shouldn’t.  Let’s go through a couple:

1. Having a Bland Tone

Yes, there are worse things that you can do, but sometimes being unimaginative in your posting can be worse than polarizing fans one way or the other with a bold or humorous status.  Try to find a voice for your brand, be it bitingly sarcastic, or even a self-deprecating post every now and then can help you connect with your fans.  Careful not to mention something too contentious though!

2. Having Far too Much Content

This applies both to individual posts, and posting habits in general.  Although you might not know it from looking at some pages, Facebook content is meant to be short and to the point, so err on the side of short and concise.  According to research by Buddy Media, posts with 80 or less characters have engagement rates 27% higher than average.

3.  Poor Mobile Optimization

It’s easy to overlook mobile optimization, saying things like: “we’ll get to it later,” or “as long as we have stuff for desktop users, that’s all that matters.”  The truth is, making sure things work smoothly on mobile is almost top priority at this stage of the game, with 945 million users (out of 1.billion) accessing Facebook through mobile apps and browsers.  Make sure your images and links are easily viewable and accessible to mobile browsers.
