Flickr has been around for a good while, and has always been a very solid photo storage and sharing service, with few frills or gimmicks.  Parent company Yahoo saw an opportunity to modernize Flickr, and went for it.  Last Friday, Flickr released its 3.0 update, bringing a new look and familiar features to the proverbial table.

Comparisons to Instagram are far from unfounded, as Flickr 3.0 boasts a strikingly similar interface, loads of filters, and the ability to like, comment, and share.

Some of the benefits include improved sharing through Dropbox and Google+, a larger editing suite., and the ability to view a photo’s metadata.

Is Flickr holding their own while possibly trying to rebrand as a social network?  Or are they just one step behind?
