Who hasn’t seen those cringeworthy Facebook photos? Or those statuses mistakently shared with too many people?  Facebook’s privacy settings, while a necessary option, don’t really cover the needs for users who want a quick, easy way to privately share something with only a few of their closest friends.  For those users who feel obliged to censor themselves or just can’t deal with the complicated friends lists, there is hope.

A recent report from Tech Crunch has announced that Facebook has developed an app for super-secret sharing, codename: “Moments.”  Allegedly, the app features a grid-like menu that houses lists of “Friends” such as a list for family, close friends, or confidantes.   The idea is that a user can tap the desired list to quickly and selectively share.  “Moments” offers a more audience focused sharing ability, as opposed to the main Facebook App, which focuses mainly on content.

While a Facebook representative gave the ever-informative standard reply of “we do not comment on rumors or speculation,” Tech Crunch has full faith in their claim, even stating that their “source” has seen a live internal version of Moments.  It remains to be seen whether or not Facebook actually releases the app, seeing as how they have scrapped a couple projects in the past.  But, considering how Facebook’s business depends on trust, we can trust that even if “Moments” does not get released, Facebook will most certainly keep experimenting with new apps and options.
